Sukayu Onsen Ryokan in Oirase & Hakkoda Onsen offers a tasteful hidden bath experience with a pure and rustic ambiance, set amidst a 900-meter highland in the Hakkoda mountain system, where the historic wooden structure has welcomed guests since the Edo period, including staff members and actors from the 1977 Japanese movie Hakkodasan. Known as the "sacred spring above the clouds," this historic hot spring has been cherished for its acidic sulfur waters, earning the distinction of being Japan's first hot spring designated as a national health resort. The ryokan's most famous feature is the Hiba Senninburo, an enormous mixed bath made entirely of hiba wood spanning 160 tatami mats in area, where guests can experience four distinct baths with different spring sources, creating a comprehensive therapeutic experience in this sister property to Hakkoda Hotel.
